[Review] ONEUS – BLOOD MOON

The boys from ONEUS are back with the mini-album ‘BLOOD MOON’. We’ve been waiting (im)patiently for this one, so let’s dive right in!

BLOOD MOON

Last week they pre-released this intense ‘Intro: Window’ featuring Choi Ye Lim who is a famous gugak star. This track is such an interesting blend between old and new. I love it! The performance is stellar!

Next up is the title track ‘LUNA’. This is quite reminiscent of their older track ‘LIT’ which also blended traditional Korean elements and a new contemporary beat. The dance break is intense and I would love to see a live version with the real traditional instruments. I’m also living for Leedo’s rap moment. There’s also some stunning vocal belts hidden in the layering.

The music video is stunning and has beautiful shots and set designs.

After that we get ‘Yes Or No’. According to the album description the track is a continuation of ‘Polaris’ from ‘BINARY CODE‘. Despite it being a completely different sound than the previous tracks on the album, I really enjoyed the brass and funky beats.

Life is Beautiful’ comes next. This track was pre-released two months ago for their special project ‘ONEUS THEATRE’. This summer bop feels very wholesome and healing. The flute is a lovely addition to the instrumentation.

Next up

The next song was also for their ‘ONEUS THEATRE’ project. ‘Shut Up 받고 Crazy Hot! is a DOPE track that carries a lot of power without losing its quirkiness. The performances are amazing and the vocal work is super solid. The video was inspired by ‘Mad Max’ and it looks sick.

A bit of a musical whiplash with ‘We’re in love’ which is a soft dance pop mix. The instrumentation has a lovely cathartic build-up for the chorus. The vocals are super soft and it’s well balanced with the rap verses.

The last track is ‘Who You Are’ which falls more into the R&B side of the spectrum. The vocals are sexy and the instrumentation adds to that feeling. The chorus has a lovely flow to it and is really well done.

Overall, ‘BLOOD MOON’ by ONEUS is a really cool addition to their discography. It has a bit of everything. If anyone does the traditional meets contemporary concept well, you know it’s going to be ONEUS. I’m very happy with the quality of this mini. You can find the mini-album on Spotify here.
