[Review] Miracle: Letters to the President

For this week’s review we are sharing a romantic film with a heartfelt story. Let’s dive into ‘Miracle: Letters to the President’.

Directed and co-written by Lee Jang-hoon, this film is based on the true story of a gifted high-schooler who lived in a small town in the North Gyeongsang Province.

Getting in and out of this small village is a dangerous journey for the inhabitants of this town with train tracks but no train station. As a part of their everyday journey they have to walk on the train tracks to reach their home, but they will have to be alert on their journey as the trains run on the same route.

Miracle: Letters to the President’ tells the story of Jung Joon-kyeong (Park Jeong-min) a math genius who lives in this small village with his sister Jung Bo-kyeong (Lee Soo-Kyung) and his father Jung Tae-yoon (Lee Sung-min).

The unpredictability of their daily journey on the train track makes Joon-kyeong set on a mission, asking the president to build a train stop at their village so they don’t have to fear for their lives anymore on their way home.

He starts to write them after he sees the tragic loss of a life on the way home with other villagers. After many years writing these letters, Joon-kyeong starts high-school where he meets the very enthusiastic Song Ra-hee (Im Yoon-ah). She reads one of his letters and decides to support him and help him on his mission.

Similar to his sister, Ra-hee supports Joon-kyeong and recognizes his talent. She does everything she can to help him achieve his objective and also try and take him out of the small village where he can make use of his talent a lot more.

Tragic events keep happening in the small village. Joon-kyeong and the villagers decide to take matters into their own hands. They built the first private train station, hoping that the train will finally stop there.
