The 2020 rookies MCND are back with their new album ‘MCND AGE’ and we are living!! For our very own The K MEAL Awards, they won debut song of the year with ‘Into the Ice Age’. This is the third installment of their ‘AGE’ series.
MCND AGE
We start off with ‘Intro’ which hypes us up and sets the scene with its electronic sound. I would kill to see a choreography for this track.
After the ‘Intro’ we blend in seamlessly to the title track ‘Crush’. Member Castle J has writing credits. This is such a fun, laidback track. It’s a total mood and they all get their spotlight. In comparison to their previous title tracks, it doesn’t go that hard, but honestly, I don’t mind. The dance break is funky and everything comes together so nicely in the bridge. Ugh, I love it!
Track number three is ‘LOUDER’ and starts with some soft guitar. I really like the little samples they used like the clinking of glasses, the chimes and the summery synth. This feels so soft and proves that the boys keep reinventing themselves.
‘KO, OK!’ follows that with a very oldschool sound. It’s an instant serotonin boost with its chanting, catchy lyrics and clap heavy chorus. This is fabulous. ‘I’m the champion, do you know.’
Next up
We’re going back to the hard hitting tracks with ‘PLAYER’. This feels so well balanced between heavy EDM and bass and the softer moments. Castle J is the only one listed as the songwriter and he compared all of the members to players in a game. We love to see it.
Next up is ‘Outro’ which was co-composed by Jung Jinwoo from Planetarium Records. We spoke about him here. Castle J was again the only writer listed as the lyricist. There’s an interesting layering going on in this track. It’s fire y’all. That bridge is next level and gave me actual chills.
The last track, ironically, is ‘Not Over’. This one is so much fun. It’s dripping with sass together with that funky bassline. If you need to be hyped up, listen to this. Honestly this screams road trips with friends. What an amazing way to close off this EP.
‘MCND AGE’ by MCND is straight up fire and I am living for it! I can’t wait to look at the live stages because this is going to be so much fun.
