[Review] JUNNY – blanc

JUNNY is back to bless us with his R&B vocals with his full-length album ‘blanc’. The concept of the album is all about how each songs represents a different time in his twenties that he paints on the blank canvas. Let’s dive in!

blanc

We start off with the track ‘Mercury’. I’m absolutely in love with the soft build-up and the spacious soundscape he created in the single.

Next up is ‘Obvious’. I really enjoyed the smooth transition from ‘mercury’ into ‘Obvious’. This one has a lot more rock influences. The claps are a lot of fun and mixed with the electric guitar it creates a fun listening experience. The bridge with the piano and the more gospel inspired vocals were incredible!

The title track ‘Not About You’ follows that. This is an interesting mix of emotions. The lyrics definitely help with the story, so turn your captions on for the translation. Boy got cheated on and his ex thinks that all of his songs are about her. But alas, this is his reply to that girl. It’s ‘Not about you’. The phrase ‘I want you to feel your shame’ had me gutted.

After that comes the pre-released single ‘Color Me’ featuring Chung Ha which we wrote about here.

Next up

Next up is ‘Mugshot’ featuring UNE. Apart from an absolutely wonderful bass line, I’m obsessed with the vocals. It’s fantastic to hear their voices blend so well. This is super smooth and I’m living for it.

‘Get Ya!’ featuring pH-1 was also a pre-release.

Next up is ‘Just A Number’. This one is completely in English and a perfect summer track. The vibes are super chill and there’s some cool brass hiding in the back. The vocal acrobatics in the bridge are super nice and overall, this is a perfect vibe.

‘boyhood’ is the first slower track of the album. This acoustic pop ballad is absolutely lovely and the guitar really creates an intimate sound. The instruments that come in later, only help embellish that sound. I would love to hear a slower, live version of this.

The closing track is ‘OH!!’. This is a dope pop rock track that feels like a proper end for this album.

Overall ‘blanc’ by JUNNY is a great listen and has many amazing tracks that will be favorites for a long time.
