[Review] Dog Days

This week’s movie review spotlights a wholesome film that hit the screens at the start of this year. Get ready to dive into the heartwarming story of ‘Dog Days’—a tale about love, loss, and the connections we make through our furry friends.

Written by Yoo Young-ah and directed by Kim Deok-min, ‘Dog Days’ tells the intertwining stories of various dogs and their owners, showcasing how they navigate life’s challenges with the help of their four-legged companions.

The Story

The film kicks off with Min-sang (Yoo Hae-jin), a building owner who isn’t fond of dogs. His tenant, Jin-yeong (Kim Seo-Hyung), runs a veterinary clinic in the building and constantly locks horns with him due to their conflicting views. Despite their tense relationship, Jin-yeong is deeply dedicated to her patients and their owners, always advocating for the welfare of the animals in her care.

One of her clients is Min-seo (Youn Yuh-jung), a renowned architect with a no-nonsense personality but a heart full of love for her beloved dog, Wanda. Unfortunately, Min-seo collapses on the street one day, and a young delivery guy named Jin-woo (Tang Jun-Sang) rushes to her aid but accidentally leaves Wanda wandering alone in the city.

A Lost Dog Brings Families Together

Wanda is eventually found by Ji-yu (Yoon Chae-na), a young girl recently adopted by Jeong-ah (Kim Yin-jin) and Seon-yong (Jung Sung-hwa). This newly formed family decides to take care of Wanda until they can locate her rightful owner. In the process, Wanda helps Ji-yu open up emotionally, strengthening her bond with her adoptive parents.

As Min-seo wakes up in the clinic, her primary concern is finding Wanda. With the help of Jin-woo and her friends at the veterinary clinic, she sets out on a mission to bring her beloved dog home. Meanwhile, Seon-yong comes across a flyer for Wanda but hesitates to return the dog, fearing it might hurt Ji-yu’s newly blossoming connection with her adoptive parents.

Connecting Through Love

‘Dog Days’ beautifully captures how people’s lives intersect through their love for dogs, even turning non-dog lovers into passionate pet owners. The film tells a touching story about how animals can heal emotional wounds and bring people closer together.
