The sub-unit of DAY6 Even of Day is back with their new mini-album ‘Right Through me’. This is the second mini-album by the unit consisting of Wonpil, Dowoon and Young K.
Right Through Me
We start off with the delightful synth rock ballad ‘WE’. It’s a very hopeful song, that will lift your spirits. The little synth outro is really cute.
Next up is the title track ‘Right Through Me’. This one is an interesting blend of a classic 90s Korean ballad with some Hip-Hop beats and some jazz chords. I absolutely loved this! THe mixing and layering is really well done and I like the little synth they added in the back. This feels like a classic DAY6 song while also feeling like a more mature sound for the group.
‘WALK’ gives us some good old chanting in the chorus. Wonpil’s verse in the bridge was super soft and when Young K comes in with the ‘la la’ it feels very wholesome. This is a 10/10 for me.
Next up
After that we get ‘all the things you wanted’. We’re going retro synth with this one. This pop ballad brings out some of the best of the trio.
‘from the ending of a tragedy’ embraces their rock sound a bit more with some British rock influences. It reminds me of their ‘Sunrise’ era.
Next up is ‘Home Alone’. We’re going 80s synth pop and it’s a whole vibe. I even heard Dowoon’s voice at one point! I really like the lyrics of this one. Here’s a snippet.
I’m so happy without you

It doesn’t matter, I’m the most precious
I used to cry because of you
The dark night is now over
So I go home alone
‘LOVE PARADE’ is the last track of the mini-album. This track is a celebration of love in all its shapes and sizes. They really said, Pride month isn’t over yet. It’s a great song and a wonderful closure.
Overall, ‘Right Through Me’ by DAY6 (Even of Day) is a great, cohesive mini-album with the sub-unit figuring out their distinctive sound. It’s a mature exploration of synth rock and it’s a great listen. You can find it on Spotify here.
