[Review] Dali and Cocky Prince

This time for our drama review we are talking about a 2021 KBS drama with a beautiful production and story. Let’s talk about ‘Dali and Cocky Prince’.

Directed by Lee Jung-seob and created by Son Seok-gu and Park Se-eun, ‘Dali and Cocky Prince’ narrates the story of two opposites who find comfort in each other.

Kim Da-Li (Park Gyu-Young) is a visiting researcher in an art gallery in The Netherlands who comes from a prestigious family. In an unexpected situation she is asked to collect an important collector and benefactor to the art gallery from the airport, however, she mistakenly confuses him with Jin Moo-Hak (Kim Min-Jae).

Moo-Hak is the director of the global company Dondon F&B. He takes a lot of pride in this company founded and grown by his father, and is really good at doing business, however, he is not so good at talking but has a really good heart.

They both meet without knowing who they are and their background, and end up liking each other, but they also forget to ask for each other’s details to stay in touch.

Back to reality

Unexpectedly, Da-Li has to go back home after finding out her father passed away. Once she gets there, she has to deal not just with her loss, but also with all the financial difficulties that her father’s gallery was in.

Soon after she takes over her family’s gallery, she has to face one of their main difficulties, their creditors, and Moo-Hak ends up being one of them.

Da-Li now has to face not just financial problems but also work through the schemes of all the people against her family and the gallery, however, new and old friends will be there to support her.

Rom-com and a touch of art

Being set in an art gallery ‘Dali and Cocky Prince’ starts off giving us a glimpse of art work, with stunning real life pieces being displayed and a beautiful cinematography, however, this aspect is pushed aside to give room to the side stories.

I would have personally loved it if the series had kept the artistic aspect as a visual complement to the stories, however, we just get bits and pieces of it as the plot develops.

Something I particularly liked is how well rounded all the characters were, and even though this series had quirky comedy once in a while. It also offered candid stories and actors delivering incredible roles.

Gyu-Young did a splendid job portraying Da-li. Her character was lovable and I am sure many viewers (including me) just wanted to protect her. On the other side Min-Jae as Mo-Hak deliver and incredible performance and portrayed a character that wasn’t just funny but also super likeable. His actions, gestures and emotions were beautifully done and this for sure became one of my favourite characters from him.

If you are into love stories, comedy and art, ‘Dali and Cocky Prince’ is a must watch for you. You can check the trailer below.
