[Review] DAESUNG – D’s WAVE

After many years of anticipation, DAESUNG is finally back with his first full Korean-language solo album, ‘D’s WAVE’. While he’s known for his beloved Japanese discography and powerful performances, this release marks a fresh chapter in his career—one filled with emotion, rock-inspired energy, and his unmistakable vocal color. Let’s dive into the waves of this long-awaited album.

D’s WAVE

This mini-album kicks off on a bright rock-pop note with ‘Beautiful Life’. From the first line, DAESUNG’s powerful and expressive vocals take center stage, blending perfectly with live band instrumentals and a soft tempo. It’s a feel-good track and an ideal spring anthem.

Teaming up with The Rose, DAESUNG brings a deeply emotional and rich sound with ‘Us Before’. The collaboration results in a beautiful synergy, with heartfelt lyrics, touching instrumentals, and vocals that convey raw sincerity. It’s a standout for its elegance and depth.

The title track ‘Universe’ continues the album’s rock-driven sound. This single feels massive—emotional, majestic, and full of heart. DAESUNG delivers a performance that pours his soul into every note. The music video enhances this experience with warm visuals, emotional storytelling, and ethereal aesthetics.

Things get even more intense with ‘Last Girl’, featuring Han Yo Han. The chemistry between them is electrifying. Han Yo Han’s rap adds fire and urgency to the emotional core of the track, creating a dynamic, heart-tugging experience.

Full of energy and attitude, ‘JUMP’ bursts through with electric guitar riffs and driving drums. The arrangement builds beautifully, leading to explosive choruses that highlight DAESUNG’s vocal strength and emotional delivery.

On a softer note, ‘Fly Away’ offers a dreamy atmosphere where DAESUNG’s tone truly shines. The build-up is subtle yet powerful, gradually rising to an emotional climax that is both delicate and impactful.

Written and composed by the legendary Sunwoojunga, ‘Wolf’ introduces a new edge to the album. This track is mysterious, experimental, and vocally daring. Its layered background vocals and unconventional structure give DAESUNG room to explore a bold new vocal range.

Closing the album is ‘Umbrella’, a gift to fans that leans into a softer rock style. Previously released in Japanese during his encore concert, this Korean version feels like a warm hug—a sentimental farewell that wraps up the album with love and gratitude.

As expected, DAESUNG delivers a stunning vocal journey in ‘D’s WAVE’. The rock sound suits him perfectly, and this release feels like the beginning of a bold new era. From emotional highs to soft reflections, every track offers a glimpse into his artistry. We can’t wait to see what he does next—but for now, make sure to soak in every second of this brilliant release.
