[Review] 1/N – HARD TO SAY IT’S OVER

The boys from 1/N are back with their third EP ‘HARD TO SAY IT’S OVER’. In the album description they wrote that this album is for all the people who have sleepless nights, thorns in their hearts and are thinking too much about lovers who got away. Let’s dive in!

HARD TO SAY IT’S OVER

We start off with ‘Intro’. This track clocks in just over a minute but what a stunning minute it is. It’s very dramatic, and creates this larger than life atmosphere that is utterly breathtaking. It feels like you’re starting a journey by taking a train to somewhere magical.

Next up is ‘Hero’. This one was pre-released two weeks ago and is still as good as the first time I heard it. We featured it in our Weekly K-Indie Report, which you can check here. The little outro is so, so lovely. I love the way it flowed from ‘Intro’ to the ticking of ‘Hero’. Brilliant!

The third track is ‘If you don’t love me’ and for me, this is a perfect example of the entire band in perfect synergy. There’s not one thing dominating the others, it’s wonderfully balanced. I really wish I could find a translation of this track somewhere. It feels like the kind of thing that lingers on, kind of like a bruise.

After that we go a bit more garage rock with ‘Just Say No’. In the album description they used the phrase ‘if I don’t wrap it in a lie, I feel like it’ll break apart’ and that’s quite tragic really. I like this song a lot. It has a bit of chutzpah that keeps you hooked.

Next up

Next up is the title track by 1/N: ‘Hard to say it’s over’ that came with a new video. As expected, the song is quite sad. The lyrics are completely in English. Honestly, this is just an amazing rock ballad and really allows you to get into your feels. The bridge where most of the instrumentation falls away and it’s just the vocal with the piano is immaculate.

We’re on track number six with ‘We, Night’. This track feels super short even though it’s over three minutes long. I love the guitar and the drums in this one. Also, hello vocals, come through.

‘Thorns in me’ follows that and lucky us, because we got another video. I am OBSESSED with this song. The guitar popped off and I’m in love?! I felt this track in my soul, man.

The last track on this album is ‘Untitled’. This track is more simplistic in the instrumentation. It’s mostly just piano played by Kim Chanyoung. However, there’s beauty in the simplicity and it makes the track feel very true.

Honestly, ‘HARD TO SAY IT’S OVER’ is a beautiful album by 1/N. It’s the kind of album you can listen to over and over without getting sick of it. Go ahead and listen to it on Spotify here.
