Ode To The Artist: Vincent Blue

M.E.A.L. is back with another ‘Ode To The Artist’.

Vincent Blue is a hugely underrated singer-songwriter. His jazzy voice is literal heaven. And I feel like it’s my duty to share the word and spread the love. Because this kind of talent should be recognized worldwide. Also I need him to perform in Dublin so I can hear him live, but that’s probably wishful thinking on my part.

First of all, Vincent Blue has amazing original soundtracks for K-dramas. Here are some of the dramas he wrote/sung for: ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo’, ‘I’m Not A Robot’, ‘My Mister’, ‘My Secret Terrius’ and ‘Children Of Nobody’.

I think my personal favourite is the Band Version of ‘There Is A Rainbow’ for the drama starring IU: ‘My Mister’. Just read these lyrics:
‘My strong unbreakable shadow,
if I endure it everyday,
Will I be closer to a dream of hope?’

Also a quick sidenote, I really recommend you watch the drama because it is so incredibly well done.

Next on his repertoire, his self-written songs. We need to talk about ‘It’s Raining’. First off, the MV is gorgeous. It’s entirely themed around Vincent Van Gogh’s room and some of his paintings. So if you’re a fan of his work, check out the MV to see some stunning shots.

Second of all, the lyrics are poetic and kind of breathtakingly beautiful.
‘Ooh, just feel so sad inside,
Putting aside today, I fall asleep,
Ooh, it seems like loneliness,
The sun rises again,
As if it’s gonna forget tomorrow.’

In his next video Vincent Blue continues with the Van Gogh theme though a little bit less than ‘It’s Raining’, but still the thread is there. It’s probably because both of their first names are Vincent. I don’t want to tell you how long it took me to figure that out.

The sad lyrics are there as well. I just wanna ask ‘Who hurt you?’ also in proper DisKovery With A K theme, ‘Do you need a blanket?’.

Interesting fact is that he actually started off under the name Blue Bugg, though he only released two singles under that name and I don’t know why he changed it because I can’t find anything related to that. The song ‘There I Go’ is so jazzy, I love it.

I also briefly want to talk about the feature he did with Hanonn for the song ‘Her At The Time’. I may have already raved about that song in episode 9 of our podcast ‘DisKovery With A K’, but I thought the ‘Ode To The Artist’ would be incomplete if I didn’t mention it. This song, though not particularly special from a technical or lyrical perspective, it still packs a punch. Sometimes simplicity conveys the emotion best.

I am looking forward to everything he will release after this. I’m already happy with the covers he does on his YouTube. I mean, the man covered Kwaye’s song ‘Lost In My Boots’, he clearly has good taste.

Go follow him on Instagram, he’s adorable.
Also check out his Spotify and add his songs to your sad playlists, I know that you have at least one.
