Ode To The Artist: Taemin

We’re back with a new Ode To The Artist and this time we’re taking a look at the career of Taemin. Right now he’s still in the army and I miss his music, so let’s take a closer look.

Debut

Taemin debuted in the iconic K-pop group SHINee in 2008 when he was only 14. As we all know, everything SHINee has released was and still is absolutely fantastic. Try getting ‘Ring Ding Dong’ out of your head.

For the purpose of this article this will mostly be about his solo work as SHINee would be a whole feature on its own. If you want to read about KEY, you can take a closer look here

Taemin debuted solo in 2014 with his mini-album ‘Ace’. The title track was ‘Danger’ and can I just say ICON. Everything from the nose ring, to the heavy eyeliner, is honestly a vibe. The song is still catchy as ever and this is a total timeless bop.

Two years later he released his first full album ‘Press it’. The title track ‘Press Your Number’ had a music video and two performance videos that were all beyond stunning. Interestingly enough, ‘Press Your Number’ was co-produced by Bruno Mars.

2017 was an iconic year, as Taemin dropped his chart-topping, fan favorite ‘Move’. This choreo remains forever iconic and a brilliant display in body control.

Two years later, he came back with the EP ‘Want’.

Taemin is also a part of the SM group SuperM that debuted in 2019 with the track ‘Jopping’

Despite COVID, Taemin released his new full-length album ‘Never Gonna Dance Again’ in Act 1 and Act 2 with ‘IDEA’ and ‘Criminal’ as title tracks.

Taemin is one of those idols that is your idol’s idol. Many dancers and singers look up to him as he’s really one of a kind and extremely talented.

Go ahead and stream his music on Spotify here. Literally all of his releases are bops. Also check out his Japanese releases because they’re all amazing.
