We’re back with our full list of October Korean Indie DisKover. This was a hard one, because we had so many great indie releases. Let’s take a look at who made the list! If you’d like a longer list of our favorites, you can just head over to this Spotify playlist to take a look at all of our favorites of October.
Week 1
Choi Yu Ree released the EP ‘Journey’. The entire EP is filled with her warm, husky vocals and great instrumentation. In the title track there’s more focus on the guitar while in some of the other songs there’s more focus on piano. It makes for a lovely balance that feels incredibly warm and heartfelt.
Kimfeelsun came out with the single ‘Busan Letter’. The song is a reference to chasing light and memories we have from our childhood. It’s a beautiful ballad and I love her airy vocals.
This title track ‘Flower Field’ by 45 had me in awe when I heard it the first time. I am absolutely in love with the ebb and flow of the melody. The single is part of the new EP ‘9’ which is definitely worth a listen or two or five, however many you like.
Week 2
Heo Hoy Kyung released her new single ‘Kim Cheolsu Story’. I like what she wrote in the album description: “Life doesn’t always go as you want it to, but finding happiness in trivial things seems to be the best thing I can do.” The track is filled with a deep sense of melancholy and it’s a beautiful listen.
Hamster powder club came out with their debut album ‘Goodnight everyone, No More Magicpowder’. If you’re into alternative rock this is definitely a group you don’t want to miss out. I’m a bit obsessed with their single ‘Sunny Weather Song’. It’s dope.
The Black Underground and their album ‘Melancholy Green’ feels effortlessly cool. This grungy rock album is excellent and the kind of album you listen to to forget about the world.
Week 3
I might have written an Indie Pick about Budung this week, but I can’t get over how great her new album is. Her music is so brilliant, I simply had to share it here as well.
Sindosi blessed us with a new punk rock album and ‘Open the pod bay door’ is an amazing ride from start to finish.
Mulgwaumm released his second single album ‘estuary’. I thoroughly enjoyed his British indie folk influences. This reminds me so much of my teenage years where I solely listened to this type of music. It’s super soothing.
Week 4
The new trio Evenif came out with their first album ‘It’s always in my mind and we’ll be all right’. It’s a really lovely listen and goes from jazz to synthwave. It’s fun! ‘What A Shame’ is a bop.
Ahn Dayoung is back with a new EP and that is cause for celebration! She creates really interesting soundscapes. The whole album is an experience. Glowingdog also helped out on the album.
Or& is a new artist for me. Her new single ‘Hear Me’ is absolutely stunning! The ballad has a wonderful flow to it and her vocals are amazing.
That’s it for our list of October Korean Indie DisKovery. I hope you found some new gems to listen to. Let us know in the comments which one your favorite release is!
