November Korean Indie DisKovery

We’re back with our new monthly Korean Indie DisKovery, this time for the month of November. I have no idea how the month passed by so quickly, but here we are. The days are getting super short, so that might have something to do with it. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite releases.

Week 1

Jeon Yoodong came out with the EP ‘Leaving a nest’. This is such a wonderful listen. It’s soft and still has enough body to make for an interesting experience. One of the two title tracks, ‘Gingko Tree’ has this description in Melon: “The title song ‘Ginkgo Tree’ tells the story of a tree waiting for someone forever alone like fate.”

Smalltown released the soft ‘Afterwards’. I love the twangy guitar in the instrumentation. The choir sample that was used in the bridge, really helps create a very interesting ambience.

NECTA came out with an absolute club banger. ‘Fvck art let’s dance’ is insanely catchy and you just want to go crazy. The vocal echo in the layering adds to the exhilarating feeling.

Week 2

Heju came out with the stunning ‘Afternoon Cigarette’. The singer was born in the UK and in her Spotify bio she states that she has a lot of English influences on her music. Her songs are vibes.

The wonderful Cacophony came out with her new album ‘Reborn’. She even created a film to accompany her release. You can find the link to purchase the video on her Instagram. Her album is raw, emotional and has an incredibly creative sound.

The trio POLYP dropped the new mini ‘The Cinema’. It contains three songs and really has this laidback rock vibe. It’s a delightful listen. The guitar in ‘Borderline’ is dope.

Week 3

The new single ‘Nova’ by artist yey is incredible! It’s a smooth blend of R&B and Soul and a touch of that smooth deep bass. When the strings came in, I was sold. It’s honestly amazing. She also directed the music video.

Yoonsung is a new discovery for me. She released her first EP ‘I’m the only one who can open the door and come out’. It’s an amazing indie folk release and I love her vocals so much. This is the perfect release to listen to when you just need some calm music to relax. I love it.

For a complete change of pace we have Gitim with his single ‘Dead Leaves’. It’s an interesting blend of rock with electronica. It’s a really cool track.

Week 4

SSW came out with ‘Reasons’ featuring Noh Donglim. I’m obsessed with the vibe of this track. The beautiful piano opening, the fab vocals and the jazzy energy is amazing.

Siwa released the beautiful ‘Distance to breathe’. Her indie folk style fits her vocals so well. There is a wonderful ebb and flow to the single.

The last release of this week that I really wanted to share is the new album by JAURIM. The album ‘LOVE FOREVER’ is an absolute delight and I love it.
