H&D are back with their debut mini album ‘SOULMATE’. The former X1 members Hangyul & Dohyon had us astonished with their pre-debut single ‘Toward Tomorrow’ which dropped last February, and left us completely in love with their song ‘Unfamiliar’. So we were looking forward to this debut mini-album.
The long awaited MBK Entertainment duo didn’t let us down with this release, let’s wait no more and dive right in.
SOULMATE
The track ‘INTRO’ starts this release off with what I felt was a Middle Eastern vibe and electronic beats that blended extremely well with Dohyon’s incredible rapping. This song is indeed the intro that sets the vibe and energy in this mini album.
‘SOUL’ is next with a stronger and darker concept in comparison to the pre-debut release. This song is one of the title tracks for this debut release. Dohyon’s rapping is on fire in this track and Hangyul’s vocals are as beautiful as always. Big props to the styling team and the production, this video screams aesthetics left and right. It is a total BOP! Make sure to check it out below.
Next is the second title track ‘Good Night’ and this song ticks all the boxes for a summer hit. It has that freshness and upbeat tempo perfect for a sunny summer day. I will definitely keep replaying this song over the next couple of months.
Coming with emotional whiplash we have ‘Unfamiliar’ the pre-released single that showed us how incredibly talented this duo is. Needless to say, the vocals are on point and this song is soft and beautiful. Check the MV below.
‘Empty Handed’ comes next with an almost pop-ballad feel. The groovy electronic track behind the vocals and the mixing in this song is top quality. So make sure to listen with headphones and enjoy every single beat in this track.
With a more pop-style, we have ‘Make Me A Different Person’, and I felt that this song followed the same summery feel of ‘Good Night’. They are different but have that happy beat and electronic/synth beat that make it perfect for a summerish dancing song.
The pre-released single ‘Toward Tomorrow’ plays next with its electronic/ballad style. I felt the H&D pre-released songs fitted them perfectly and really showed off their talent. Below you can see their ‘M COUNTDOWN’ stage and see what I’m talking about.
Closing this mini-album we have the instrumental version of ‘SOUL’, ‘Good Night’ and ‘Toward Tomorrow’, and if you want to enjoy the feel and incredible mixing of these songs make sure to listen to them, and you will definitely appreciate the work behind it and also notice the big difference without H&D’s incredible singing.
We cannot wait to see what next for this duo, in the meanwhile you can enjoy this full release below.
