We mostly write about K-pop, indie and hip-hop but this time we wanted to share some of our favorite musicians who don’t use words but rather an instrument to create something magical. Today we’re taking a look at some Korean classical musicians who create some wonderful music that will calm, excite and soothe. Let’s dive in!
One of my personal favorites is The BLANK Shop under Antenna. His album ‘TAILOR’ is still one of my favorite albums of 2020.
Kang Seung Hun creates wonderfully jazzy piano albums. His 2021 album ‘No Matter What’ is a very smooth listen.
The Korea Jazz Guardians came out with the grooviest albums of 2021.
Rani is a musician who uses the harmonica to create wonderful listening experiences. She also has a YouTube channel where she performs covers of popular songs.
Park Ji was part of the Jarasum Jazz Residency in 2021 and came out with the single ‘Melt’. The cellist has been releasing stunning pieces since 2014.
Hyewon is a flutist who has released a couple of delightfully light singles.
If you like bigger ensembles, check out Liberosis.
Suwon Yim’s latest single came straight out of a fairy tale.
The last artist I wanted to share is Clouded Moon who is a pianist.
Honorable mention to Jazz musician Kim Oki who I’ve featured as an Indie Pick before. In 2019 he released this beautiful work.
That’s it for this feature of Korean Classical Musicians of note. I hope you found some new musicians to follow and appreciate.
