K-Variety Taster: Idol Groups Shows Edition

This week’s K-Variety Taster is a special edition, spotlighting unconventional variety shows created exclusively for specific idol groups and their dedicated fandoms.

In the early days of K-pop, variety shows were typically produced by major broadcasting companies like MBC, SBS, or KBS. However, these traditional formats didn’t always align with the evolving tastes of newer idol generations and their fans. As a result, idols began producing their own variety shows, offering a fresh and personalised take on content. These shows often feature idols travelling, playing games, going on adventures, and even engaging in sports.

A prime example of this shift is the now-iconic RUN BTS!—a show produced exclusively for BTS and ARMY. As one of the first variety shows to adopt this diverse format, it set a precedent that many other idol groups have followed, tailoring content to showcase each group’s unique charm.

Below, we’ve listed a few shows that we’ve enjoyed, but there are many more available on official YouTube channels.

BTS: RUN BTS!

RUN BTS! is a classic in the world of idol variety shows, known for its mix of hilarious antics and heartfelt moments. This show remains a fan favorite, with OG ARMYs fondly remembering the excitement of waiting for new episodes or seasons.

SEVENTEEN: GOING SEVENTEEN

Another must-watch is GOING SEVENTEEN. From intense missions to emotional trips and everything in between, this show is a rollercoaster of emotions that keeps fans thoroughly entertained.

ZEROBASEONE: ZB1_Folder

One of our current obsessions is ZB1_Folder. Since their debut last year, ZEROBASEONE has been churning out content, but this segment stands out for its wholesome episodes. From leader-picking to MBTI guessing games, this show has it all.

Stray Kids: Chan’s Room

Although Stray Kids produces a variety of content, including SKZ-TALKER, Chan’s Room deserves special mention. This spontaneous show, hosted by leader Bang Chan, has created countless memorable moments, from impromptu Valentine’s Day dates to candid chats with the members.

NMIXX: MIXXPLORE

Lastly, we highlight NMIXX’s adorable show MIXXPLORE. Currently running, the show follows the members on various adventures, offering fans a glimpse into their close-knit friendships in a relaxed and candid setting.

These are just a few examples of the many idol-driven variety shows out there. Let us know in the comments which ones we should check out next!
