[Indie Pick] PaperRiver

For this week’s Indie Pick I really wanted to write about the band PaperRiver. I’ve recently discovered their album ‘Where, there was’ and was immediately mesmerized. I decided I needed to check out their full discography.

Let’s take a closer look!

Debut

PaperRiver consists of the four members Shin Garam (guitar), Yu Heewon (trumpet), Kim Eunyoung (keyboard) and Jeong Hanseul (vocal, guitar). They had their official debut in 2020 with the release of their full-length album ‘Why, Why’.

In 2022 PaperRiver came back with the single ‘Yes I’m so happy’. This track has some very interesting lyrics.

Why does everyone
have to live in a sweet world?
have to live in a sweet world?
Yes i fell in love
but he doesn’t love me
I must be so happy
Yes, that’s right
’cause I’m in love
I’m in somewhere between
happiness and sorrow
Rainbow, ice cream, vodka
Everyone should be happy,

PaperRiver – ‘Yes I’m so happy’

The previous track was a pre-release for their new full-length album ‘Where there was’. We featured it in our Weekly K-Indie Report here.

I think PaperRiver has such a lovely synergy in their music. This is a beautiful example of indie folk. I am absolutely in love with their sound. It is totally perfect for a quiet evening during the start of the cold months.

I am very excited to see where this group will go in the next couple of years!

Go ahead and check out their Instagram page here. You can find PaperRiver on Soundcloud here.
