[Indie Pick] Kinkyscope

We’re back with a new Indie Pick and this time we’re writing about the duo Kinkyscope.

Kinkyscope is a Korean electronic indie duo that debuted in 2016 under the label planet pluto. The group consists of oddid and sunzzz. Oddid is in charge of the vocals while sunzzz takes care of most of the lyricism and composing.

Discography

They debuted with the single album ‘Whenever you need’ in 2016.

‘Between Allies’ was their first title track. It’s a cool electronic number with catchy synths and some really cool bass thrown in.

A couple of months later, they returned with the single album ‘Nowhere to go’ and I really enjoy their track ‘The King of Comedy’. I think they added a theremin in the instrumentation and it’s dope.

It wasn’t until 2018 that Kinkyscope came back with their first EP ‘5 Stages of Loss’. I particularly liked ‘Abnormal Life’ because there’s such an interesting ebb and flow to the instrumentation. ‘Summer’ is a bit more jazzy if you need something a bit more acoustic.

If you dig something a bit more ‘spacey’ then listen to ‘Swim’.

‘A retrospective study’ was their first full-length album in 2019. It has some interesting songs like ‘a decade ago’. A fun fact about this release is that sunzzz took care of that beautiful album cover.

The song ‘Your touch’ is club material if I ever heard one. I am in love.

Kinkyscope released two singles albums in 2020; ‘sorry.’ and ‘faux’.

I think it’s kind of a shame that they’re not bigger. Their music is pretty good and it seems like the kind of music that could have a broader fanbase. I think if they made a couple of music videos it might help.

Anyways, I hope you discovered some new bops by Kinkyscope. You can find their YouTube channel here. If you’d like to follow them on Instagram, you can do that here. Feel free to take a look at our Weekly K-Indie Reports, because you might find more gems like these.
