[Indie Pick] Kim Sookhyung

This week the topic for our Indie Pick is Kim Sookhyung and her wonderful discography. If you like a nice mix of city pop, jazz and indie folk, stick around.

Debut

Her official solo debut came with the release of her single ‘Dance’ in 2019. I genuinely enjoy this single a lot. Her vocals feel quite bluesy and the overall vibe of this track is super smooth.

In 2020 Kim Sookhyung released the two singles ‘Home’ and ‘Silence’. In the album description of ‘Home’ she wrote the following: ‘When I close my eyes, the waves of sadness, hate, longing, and love come in. Let’s all go home together when we’re willing to wash ourselves in the waves. After all, the place you started from and the place you went back to is your home.” I think it’s brilliantly worded and it adds a lot of depth to the track.

The instrumentals in ‘Silence’ are amazing!

The year after she released her first EP ‘The love of people’ with the title track ‘pale blue dot’. The title ‘pale blue dot’ is a reference to astronomer Carl Sagan’s book.

Her most recent releases are the singles ‘dear my dawn’ and ‘Fever’. The first track is a beautiful ballad while the latter is a city pop moment. It’s a lot of fun! We have featured ‘Fever’ in our Weekly K-Indie Report here.

You can follow her on her own YouTube channel here.
