EP Review: Ha Hyunsang – The Edge

Ha Hyunsang is back with his EP ‘The Edge’. Hyunsang has really been on fire ever since his participation in the show SuperBand where he won as a member of Hoppipolla. They recently came out with an EP as well, you can read that here

Let’s dive in!

The Edge

We start of with ‘Intro: Rise’. This is a rather beautifully haunting callback to his single ‘Us’. I really enjoyed the layering with the effects of being underwater.

Next up is the title track ‘Nostalgia’ featuring Rohann. Check out the music video.

It’s a beautiful summer track with Hyunsang’s beautiful vocals and I thoroughly enjoyed Rohann’s feature. I like the shift with some of the synths into the left and right earbuds. So tip from me, listen to it with headphones on.

‘A Book of Love’ is next. The focus is very much on the vocals, there’s very sparse instrumentation, with only violins for the first minute. It’s not until the chorus that more instruments come in. What a beautiful, comforting track.

The fourth track on the EP is ‘Not okay’. This is the closest Ha Hyunsang has ever gotten to releasing a dance track in my opinion. The thing is, the lyrics are absolutely heart wrenching. It’s an oxymoron if I ever saw one. If there’s ever an acoustic version of this released, we’ll all be in tears.

‘Close’ is the last track. This is the OST material I’m used to hearing from Ha Hyunsang. It very much feels like his style. He literally has a voice that makes it seem like he’s been through three divorces. Every sad song he releases has the power to break our hearts. Honestly, it’s a skill.

Overall

‘The Edge’ by Ha Hyunsang is a solid piece and a great addition to his discography. Ha Hyunsang is going places and we’ll be there along the way, rooting for him.
