Independent singer-songwriter Seo’s Room is back with her first full-length album ‘Village’. We raved about her debut album, so we were super stoked to get to listen to her new release.
In her album introduction she wrote the following: “Village is a playful album that looks upon an imaginary village from afar — a place
that, precisely because it can never be experienced, feels all the more beautiful and deeply missed.
They say that life is a comedy when viewed from a distance, and through this album, I wanted to create that comedy.
Rather than expressing sadness directly, the album captures my endless longing for the sophisticated emotions and rhythms of Brazilian music. It consists of peaceful yet playful tracks, filled with small, charming details and a sense of quiet fun.”
She wrote, and composed the album herself and worked together with Debong for the guitars and production.
The album contains 8 tracks and we start off with ‘Hutch’ which is the title track. This opens with a funky synth and keeps that up for the entire track. It has a lovely progression and makes for really solid bedroom synth pop number.
‘Up The Hill’ brings in that Brazilian rhythm a bit more. This sounds soft and playful. It’s a wonderful listen.
‘Funny Day’ does some great things with the synth pad and creates some fun rhythms and dimensions to the track. Also the layering in the bridge/outro was superb.
‘Village’ is a short interlude. It gives me the same energy as those old pixel video games. It’s very sweet.
Next up is ‘Sad Joke’. It takes almost forty seconds for the vocals to come in. I love the vintage, almost carousel-like synths.
‘Nature Process’ starts with beautiful harmonies that will immediately give you chills. It’s a short track, running at 1 minute and 40 seconds but it is a little gem that gave me Studio Ghibli vibes where you’re standing in a grass field and the wind is dancing all around you.
‘Terrace Above’ feels whimsical and wistful at the same time. It stays quite ethereal and I enjoyed the humming section where the vocals blend into the synth.
The closing track is ‘Memory Bridge (outro)’. This ends the album with the carousel ride. It’s a very cute ending that will have you wanting to restart the album.
