A new NCT sub-unit has officially arrived, and it’s safe to say fans’ prayers have been answered. NCT members Jeno and Jaemin have joined forces as NCT JNJM, and this duo wastes no time delivering a bold and cohesive first mini-album.
We were absolutely hyped for this project, and after diving into the music, it’s clear JNJM came prepared.
BOTH SIDES
The title track ‘BOTH SIDES’ kicks off the release with a confident hip-hop/EDM fusion. Smooth synth instrumentals glide over a punchy beat, creating a polished yet edgy atmosphere. The pre-hook delivers stunning falsettos that contrast beautifully with the effortlessly cool rap verses. It’s dynamic, stylish, and instantly replayable.
‘I.D.O.L.’ shifts the momentum into an uptempo pop direction, blending bass-heavy production with EDM elements and a subtle old-school flair. Jeno and Jaemin lean fully into their rap chemistry here, balancing melodic flows with groovy harmonies. The vibey bridge adds a satisfying switch-up that keeps the track engaging from start to finish.
Written by Jaemin, ‘What It Is’ stays rooted in hip-hop but introduces smooth R&B textures and layered harmonies. The track highlights their deeper vocal tones, adding a sultry groove that contrasts with their sharper rap delivery. It’s a standout for its balance of swagger and sophistication.
With ‘HASHTAG,’ the duo taps into a 2000s-inspired hip-hop vibe. Heavy basslines and frequent tempo shifts make this track feel unmistakably aligned with the signature NCT sound. The back-and-forth between melodic sections and sharper, more aggressive rap flows keeps the energy unpredictable and exciting.
‘WIND UP’ dives headfirst into an old-school hip-hop aesthetic. The instrumental layering feels rich and textured, allowing Jeno and Jaemin’s synergy to shine. Their chemistry is effortless, and the trendy twist on the arrangement turns the track into a certified groove.
Closing the mini-album is ‘sexier,’ a synth-driven track that leans fully into its name. Smooth, confident, and slightly edgy, the song embraces a mature vibe while maintaining the project’s cohesive sound. It wraps up the mini on a chilled yet striking note, leaving a lasting impression.
NCT JNJM delivers exactly what fans were hoping for: a hip-hop-driven mini-album that confidently explores both their rap strengths and their more sensual, vocal-forward side.
