Huiii: The Dreamy-R&B Indie Artist Blending Comfort, Emotion, and Vulnerability

The Korean indie scene continues to expand with fresh voices, and among its most quietly compelling acts is Huiii, a singer-songwriter whose music drifts somewhere between lo-fi softness, R&B warmth, and dreamy electronic textures. Although she first debuted in 2019, she remains one of the scene’s best-kept secrets, crafting songs that feel like comfort poured into melody. Recently, we interviewed the rising artist to talk about her journey, her evolving sound, and the stories behind her newest EP, ‘True Love’.

Early Beginnings: Finding Music, Finding Herself

For Huiii, music wasn’t something she discovered, it was something she grew up with.
“I grew up in a family where my dad played guitar and my mom sang harmonies,” she recalls. “Playing piano and singing was the most enjoyable thing in the world.”

That childhood warmth, paired with her growing love for sound, eventually led to the moment she thought: “I want to be someone who creates amazing music too.” And just like that, her artistic path began to take form.

Her stage name, however, came to life in a much simpler and charmingly spontaneous way. “My English name is Hui Jin, so I took ‘Hui’ from that. Then I added two i’s because I thought it looked pretty,” she laughs. “There isn’t a deep meaning behind it, honestly.”

Before officially debuting, Huiii uploaded composition practice tracks to SoundCloud, simple, exploratory creations made on type beats. It was one of these demos that caught the attention of producer CHRK, leading to her first collaborative single, “Love Affair.”

Growth Through Sound and Storytelling

After debuting, Huiii didn’t return again until 2022, when she released ‘Like a Fool’ featuring Donutman, a single she considers her true beginning. “It was the song that made me feel ready to present my music properly,” she reflects. “Honestly, it might be my real debut track.”

Her next project, the single album ‘No More Story About Us’, revealed a more emotional, mature dimension to her vocals. Reflecting on the shift, she explains:
“I wanted to make songs that I love the most and that I can express best. At the time, I was thinking more about breakups than love, so I drew from my own experiences and the experiences of people around me.”

Looking back on her career so far, Huiii feels that the biggest change has been internal.
“I used to have no confidence in myself,” she admits. “But now, I’ve found my own color, I know what kind of singer Huiii is.”

“I’ve found my own color, I know what kind of singer Huiii is.”

TRUE LOVE: A New Chapter of Versatility

‘True Love’ marks Huiii’s second EP, and with it, she wanted to break expectations.
“I wanted to show that I’m not limited to one genre, that I can create my own sound across different styles,” she says. “Since people often only listen to the title track, I wanted all six songs to feel engaging from start to finish.”

The EP opens with one of its title tracks, ‘Starry Night’, a smooth, lo-fi piece that captures the essence of her personal sound. Meanwhile, the second title track, ‘Again’, dives into sentimental winter R&B.
“I made both songs title tracks because they were the ones I hoped people would listen to the most,” she explains. “Again has the deepest winter mood, it matched the season perfectly.”

Another standout on the album is ‘True Lover’, a collaboration with NEON.
“I’ve always liked his voice and his music,” she shares. “While working on the song, I realized his tone would fit the vibe perfectly. So I reached out, and he gladly agreed.”

Then there’s ‘Sing Alone,’ one of the most emotionally resonant tracks on the EP. The concept came to her in a very visual way.
“The beat was completed first, and while listening to it, I fully immersed myself in the scenes and feelings that appeared in my mind,” she says. “The first image that came to me was loneliness, and I built the song around that.”

Of all the tracks, her personal favorite is ‘Again’.
“It was the first time I wrote a song inspired by a film,” she explains.

“It has this fantasy element,  the idea of erasing memories of someone you love. The song and the season aligned so perfectly.”

Looking Ahead: Dreams, Influences, and Identity

When asked about her favorite project in her discography, Huiii chooses ‘No More Story About Us’ , a project that deeply reflects her artistic identity. “I immersed myself so much while making it, and it stayed with me afterward,” she says. “I still listen to it often.”

Her playlist these days includes HONNE, especially the 2016–2017 era she finds uniquely comforting, particularly on cold days.

For new listeners, Huiii describes her sound in one word: dreamy.
“You’ll understand once you listen,” she smiles. She also follows a personal rule when writing lyrics: nothing overly provocative. “The music I release becomes my ‘face,’ so I don’t want to be perceived that way. It’s not that those songs are bad, I just want my music to reflect the version of myself I want to share.”

As for what fans can expect next?
“I’ll continue making music without losing my own color,” she promises. “I won’t disappoint the people who enjoy my vibe — so please look forward to what’s next.”
