In this edition of OffStage, we’re spotlighting a creative force who has shaped the visual identity of countless K-pop hits, director Lee Han Gyeol, also known professionally as Hanbago.
Based on his Instagram, Han Gyeol’s earliest credited work dates back to 2015, when he directed Kisum’s ‘Love Talk’, a project that marked the beginning of an impressive visual journey.
His early works include Lim Kim and Verbal Jint’s ‘Stay Ever’, Seo In-Guk’s ‘Season of the Heart’, Amber’s ‘Borders’, DPR LIVE’s ‘THIRST’, BOBBY’s ‘HOLUP!’, and MINO’s ‘BODY’ — all of which became standout releases in 2016, cementing Hanbago’s name in the Korean music video scene.

One of his biggest breakthroughs came with EXO’s 2017 hit ‘Ko Ko Bop’, which showcased his striking color palette and dynamic cinematography.
From there, Hanbago’s career only soared. He went on to shoot and direct music videos for major K-pop acts, including IU, BTS, SEVENTEEN, TXT, and BLACKPINK, each project highlighting his signature visual storytelling.
