For this week’s Indie Pick I want to talk about GOND. He’s an indie hip hop artist under Gold Mine Entertainment and only debuted in October 2019.
The song ‘Drunk On You’ is GOND’s debut track.
Though that’s not the first song I heard. The first track I heard was ‘Dive, Dive, Dive’. The music video is absolutely incredible! Who knew that I needed to see jellyfish in the ‘Starry Night’ painting by Vincent Van Gogh?
The music video for ‘Dive, Dive, Dive’ is quite similar to his ‘Drunk On You’ MV in the sense that it plays with technology. In ‘Drunk On You’ it’s more to do with buffering and lagging shots. While in ‘Dive, Dive, Dive’ they used AI to layer historic and iconic paintings to create new images.
Go check out this behind the scenes video. It’s really interesting to discover more about the process. The entire thing took them 7 months to complete. GOND produced and directed both music videos which is absolutely amazing.
Lyrics and Soundscape
For his first mini album ‘Typeface: Grotesque’ he wrote, composed and arranged all of the songs himself. The talent y’all!
In the middle of dark absence,
GOND – Dive, Dive, Dive
I’m losing breath,
I’m dragged deeper and deeper
as heavy as the weight of time,
who can take me out, tell me who can take me out?
Falling for a simple trick of hormone
that’s all fine.
Divine love is just a fruit of evolution.
Something with a different vibe is ‘Body’s Honest’. Especially the second half gave me goosebumps. The intensity threw me off a bit at first. But there’s such an interesting soundscape being created!
The same goes for ‘Dada’ which doesn’t have any lyrics. It’s purely instrumental, but the way it is done is beyond incredible. I kind of really want to pick his brain and just see what his thought process is like.
Here’s his Instagram.
Here’s his Spotify. Please go follow him, we need to support upcoming talent.
For the Korean speakers under us, here’s his Melon profile.

So happy I happened upon your blog! I really like the content you’re creating and spotlight like these are things I live for. It’s rare I come across recommendations for Korean artists I haven’t heard before!
I’ll have to give his album a full listen his deep voice is to die for. The production also is refreshing!
Hi Todoke,
Totally fell in love with his voice as well!
There are so many amazing indie artists out there that deserve to be put in the spotlight!
Lots of love,
