[Review] Monsta X – The Dreaming

The boys from Monsta X are back with their new full-length English album ‘The Dreaming’. I literally don’t understand how they manage to do it all, since a couple of weeks ago they released their Korean mini-album ‘NO LIMIT’.

The Dreaming

We start with the first title track ‘One Day’. This was pre-released two months ago and was accompanied by a music video. This track is super soft and has a beautiful flow to it that the vocals enhance so well.

The second title track is ‘You Problem’ which is a disco inspired single that is super catchy. This is a total earworm and I hope to see it become a trend on social media. The chorus begs for it. I am utterly in love with this track.

Next up is ‘Tied to your body’. This track is sexy and has an interesting layering going on in the back. I.M’s soft vocals really fit this track to perfection. I like the high pitch in the chorus a lot. It is the shortest track in the album, just over two minutes.

‘Whispers in the dark’ is a soft track that has rather bitter lyrics. I wish they had switched it up a bit in the bridge to add some more dynamicity to it, but it’s still a solid track.

After that we get ‘Blame Me’. This is a lovely synth track with a solid build. The vocals are soft and it has a catchy hook.

Next up

‘Secrets’ has a groovy bassline and the chorus is dope. I can see people vibe to this easily. I love the little harmonies on certain words, I dig it.

Next up is ‘About Last Night’. The instrumentation is really cool with the synths, strings, the bass and the electric guitar. There’s even a sample of a distorted trumpet in the back, it’s awesome. It could have been a bit longer though.

‘Better’ has such a soft opening. When Minhyuk starts singing, the instrumentation picks up a bit. We get a cool bass and snare kick and it’s a smooth listen. I’m not entirely sure why this track warranted an explicit rating though.

That’s followed up by ‘Blow Your Mind’. The intro to this track had me do a doubletake. This is sexy, pop with a dash of a groovy bass. It’s super cool and one of my personal highlights of the album. The lyric ‘blow your mind’ is super catchy and I am in love.

We close off with the track ‘The Dreaming’. The lyrics are quite interesting because of the introspection and the topic. It’s definitely worth a read. It’s a really soft ending track, that is enhanced by the gentle piano.

Overall, ‘The Dreaming’ is another solid English album by Monsta X. I am missing the more quintessential Monsta X style, but they seem to go for softer music with their English releases. You can find the album here.
