[Review] ZEROBASEONE Shines in 1st Album ‘Never Say Never’ with ICONIK Title Track

Our boys from ZEROBASEONE (ZB1) are back with their very first full album ‘Never Say Never’. A few weeks ago, they teased us with the pre-release single ‘Slam Dunk’, creating major hype for this release and showing off a fresh new side to their music.

ZB1’s discography has been an incredible ride so far, and we couldn’t be more excited about this milestone. Let’s dive in!

Never Say Never

The title track ‘ICONIK’ opens this release with a smooth and groovy tempo, enriched by jazzy instrumentals and standout arrangements. Both the rap and vocal sections shine, with the bridge delivering a completely unexpected and ICONIC twist.

For the music video, the JeB1s go trendy, cool, and absolutely iconic. The charisma hits HIGH LEVELS with jaw-dropping dance sequences, killer styling, and striking visuals. Watch it below.

Next up is the pre-released ‘Slam Dunk’, powered by EDM and hip-hop beats and undeniable catchiness. You can read more about this track here.

‘Lovesick Game’ slows things down with a smooth, mature progression. The sexy tonalities, layered harmonies, and rich ad-libs captivate instantly. It’s a b-side that we’re dying to see performed live.

Bringing a lighter energy, ‘Goosebumps’ blends R&B and pop into a lively, playful track. The vocals are sweet and fun, with beautiful layering and ad-libs that make it truly charming.

Shifting gears, ‘Dumb’ leans into a hip-hop and hyper-pop vibe. Its melodic riffs, tempo shifts, and dynamic rap sections make it a track that constantly keeps listeners on their toes.

The Korean version of ‘Now or Never’ follows, while we already love the Japanese version, hearing it in Korean is a refreshing bonus.

We then move into the sub-units. First, ‘EXTRA’ (Hanbin, Yujin, Matthew, Gyubin, and Gunwook) packs charisma, power, and dynamic energy with rhythm shifts that feel explosive. They totally killed this one.

The second sub-unit track, ‘Long Way Back’ (Zhang Hao, Ricky, Jiwoong, and Taerae), delivers a smooth R&B anthem. The breathtaking vocals and flawless instrumental layering make this a standout moment in the album.

Next, ‘Star Eyes’ brings cinematic OST vibes, filled with uplifting energy. The violin instrumentals and powerful beat drops create an energizing listen that feels like pure light.

Closing the album, ‘I Know U Know’ delivers late 90s boy group nostalgia in a Pop/R&B ballad. The vocal layering is stunning, and its rich, emotional flow makes it the perfect finale. Definitely one we’d love to see on stage.

ZEROBASEONE’s first full album ‘Never Say Never’ is packed with surprises, musical richness, and non-skip tracks that highlight their versatility and star power. Once again, they’ve delivered a release that stands tall in their discography. Make sure to check it out here.
