[Review] YOUNG POSSE – Growing Pain pt.1 : FREE

The girlies from YOUNG POSSE are back with their mini-album ‘Growing Pain pt.1 : FREE’. We’re beyond curious so let’s take a closer look!

Growing Pain pt.1 : FREE

We start off with ‘YSSR’ which stands for ‘yes sir’. This is an anthem where we fully go in, without doubt and just give 100%. Honestly this was a fun listen. The bridge was a vibe.

After that comes the title track ‘FREESTYLE’. This one is kinda iconic. We’re going for a punk moment with basically a remix of ‘head shoulders knees and toes’. There was a jazz section which surprised me, but it was such a cool transition between the punk and the jazz. I loved it.

Also I had a little giggle with the aliens.

Next up is ‘ADHD’ which had this in the song introduction: “It’s an unpredictable, frog-like song!!!” They’re going for a UK EDM sound.

After that comes ‘School’s Out’ which is sung by SUNHYE and DOEUN. “Even though I cried in front of the school gate on the day I dropped out,
I thought it was the path to my dream. It wasn’t a difficult choice at all.” This was a surpringly emotional sound for them. They went for a softer moment with an electric guitar which enhanced the emotional effect.

‘MON3Y 8ANK’ is “a song dedicated to those who started hip-hop and those who made this scene!” with references to ‘C.R.E.A.M.’ by Wutang Clan. It’s a fun track but I’m missing a bit of the raw emotional storytelling.

Next up is ‘Soju’. The unnies of Young Posse are wilding after a drink and it’s hilarious.

The closing track is ‘Same Shit, Another One’. The girls have worked hard to get where they are and are continuing their hard work to grow even bigger and show an even better stage.
