Taeyeon is back with her sixth mini-album ‘Letter to myself’ yesterday. We’re expecting killer vocals on this comeback, so let’s dive right in!
Letter to myself
We start off with the title track ‘Letter to myself’. This is a pop rock moment with a lot of power. I’m in love with the message of the lyrics as it’s all about honouring, comforting and finding yourself.
This is a 10/10!
Next up is ‘Hot Mess’. It’s a pop track with really cool guitars in the backing track that are distorted. I loved the chorus with its unexpected vocal riff. This is the shortest track on the album but it doesn’t take away from the first impression. Honestly, I’m kind of obsessed.
‘Blue Eyes’ follows that with an R&B vibe and fun guitars. The trap drums feel a bit too intense for my liking however I enjoyed this part of the album description: “The lyrics metaphorically express the heart of jumping into love without hesitation even in the midst of emotions that rush in like a huge wave.”
‘Strangers’ is another R&B song with soft piano in the backing track and a solid bass and electric guitar. I like how smooth this song feels and the touch of retro to its vibe. The adlibs are solid and enhance the ambience.
Next up is ‘Blur’. The lyrics were written by members of Sweden Laundry. We’re combining R&B with fantastic vocal riffs. I dig the guitars in this one and the layering of the instrumentals.
We’re closing off with ‘Disaster’. We’re circling back with the pop rock genre. In the track Taeyeon compares falling in love as a perfect disaster. I love the vocals building up towards the chorus. This feels like quite the cathartic track.
