[Review] SEVENTEEN – Attacca

The boys from SEVENTEEN are back with their ninth mini-album ‘Attacca’. The word stands for ‘playing without interruption’. Let’s dive right in, because I have high expectations.

Attacca

We start off with ‘To You’. This synth pop track opens the album super well. It has a really cool sound and really fits with the sound they’ve been working on since ‘An Ode’.

Next up is the title track ‘Rock With You’. I am in love with this title track. The Dino/Vernon switch-up was amazing and when Wonwoo follows that up with his raspy voice, I was sold. Honestly, 10/10 for me.

After that we get ‘Crush’. This is such a funky club banger. The bass line they’re using is dope as hell and Seungkwan uses his falsetto so well in the chorus. To be fair, that entire chorus is awesome.

The opening of ‘PANG!’ is insane. This is a track by the Performance team. The transition between ‘Crush’ and ‘PANG!’ is shocking, but it definitely grabs your attention. I really enjoyed the transitions between the deep vocals and the higher pitches. The discord between the low bass and the vocals is dope. This song is completely crazy, but it’s so good! The instrumentation cuts out at one point, but it’s not even the craziest thing that happens. I am obsessed.

Next up is ‘Imperfect love’ by the Vocal unit. This mid-tempo track displays their wonderful vocals and has some rock inspirations. It’s a great track and I would love to hear a live performance of this, band included because it’d be fantastic.

The Hip-Hop team is back with the track ‘I can’t run away’. Definitely check out the lyrics, because they’re beautiful. This is a rather heartbreaking single. I’m a bit surprised at the ballad feel the song has, but honestly, this is beautiful.

Lastly we get the Digital bonus track ‘2 MINUS 1’ which is performed by Joshua and Vernon. This is a pop punk mix and it’s a party. It’s giving me early 2000s emo pop for some reason. The track is in English and it’s a break-up track with amazing vibes.

Overall, SEVENTEEN has really done it again with ‘Attacca’. This is a really cool mini-album that has fantastic tracks while still feeling like one story. I dig it.
