[Review] Mr. Plankton

We’re back with a new review and this time we watched the limited series ‘Mr. Plankton’. Let’s take a closer look!

Mr. Plankton

‘Mr. Plankton’ is a new Netflix series directed by Hong Jong-Chan and written by Jo Yong. The series has 10 episodes and was released last week.

In the ten episodes we follow our two main leads Jo Jae-Mi (Lee Yoo-Mi) and Hae-Jo (Woo Do-Hwan).

Jo Jae-Mi discovers she has premature menopause and has no chance of getting pregnant. However, with her boyfriend, she schemed to pretend to be pregnant so they could get permission to marry each other from the family matriarch Bum Ho-Ja (Kim Hae-Sook).

Hae-Jo is looking for his sperm donor. His parents discover that the sperm the father had frozen, wasn’t used for Hae-Jo’s conception. The mother, unable to reconcile herself with the idea commits suicide and the relationship between his father and Hae-Jo sours. Hae-Jo lived on the street for a bit before being taken in by Bong-Suk (Lee El). Hae-Jo discovers he has several brain tumors and decides to look for his real dad.

Overall

This was such a brilliant watch. There was plenty to laugh about and also to cry about. It was a true rollercoaster of emotions. The performances and the story were gripping and well done.

I have to mention the colors in the series. The entire series felt so vibrant and colorful. There are a lot of timejumps in the show, but with the help of the color scheme you easily see the divide between the two which helps with immersion.

The music was another top tier choice. The entire soundtrack is to die for, but I especially loved ‘California Dreamin” by The Mamas and The Papas.

‘Mr. Plankton’ is a beautiful series in several aspects, so definitely give it a watch.
