The boys from MCND are back with their new mini-album ‘EARTH AGE’. Let’s dive right in because my expectations are through the roof.
EARTH AGE
We start the mini off with the song ‘Intro ; Earth Age’ which was completely written by Castle J. He also co-composed and co-arranged it. This intro track really sets the tone well. I like the intensity. The vocal line does a really good job.
The title track ‘NANANA’ is such a crazy hype track! I’m absolutely living for it. It literally does not give you any space to breathe, but I really want to dance to it at a party.
‘Breathe’ follows with a very playful vibe. This one feels more vocally driven, though there’s some really interesting things going on in the background. There’s this ‘woomp’ synth that kind of caught me off guard, but it’s kinda fun! The bridge even gets some strings in the instrumentation.
After that we get ‘Beautiful’. Three of the members helped write this one, Castle J, Win and Huijin. This is another fun song, there’s quite a bit of harmonization and there is a funky synth in the instrumentation.
‘Galaxy’ feels a bit darker than what we’ve come across so far. The rap line really went off in this one and I can’t help but hype them up. The instrumentation is heavy dubstep EDM, but is well implemented and doesn’t take away from the members’ vocals/rap. I also really enjoyed the chanting towards the end. The little outro works really nicely.
The sixth track is ‘Bumpin’’. I’m lovin’ the intro in this one. The amount of sass in the rap is so dope. Also hello that bass is giving me life. The playfulness between the verses and the pre-chorus is really cute and makes it very dynamic.
The last track is ‘Outro ; Kepler1649c’. Kepler 1649 is an actual planet, you can find more info on the planet here. The gist of it, is that it’s the most similar planet to Earth. I wish they had brought out the vocals a bit more forward in the layering. The instrumentals are crazy and really cool.
Overall
I’m very impressed by ‘EARTH AGE’ by MCND. The fact that leader Castle J has writing credits on each and every song is really cool. I’m very excited to see how they will grow as musicians and entertainers.
