[Review] KEY – HUNTER

SHINee’s KEY is back with his third full-length solo album ‘HUNTER’. Key, who’s literally a king of concepts has been teasing some incredible images and clips, so let’s take a closer look at this comeback!

HUNTER

We start off with the title track ‘HUNTER’. We’re going for a dance track with really fun synths and an excellent bass. It’s a really cool listen which is only enhanced by the rad music video.

‘TRAP’ introduces a darker synth sound. Here the lyrics “talk about a nightmarish existence that constantly stimulates self-doubt.” I enjoyed the chorus and the vocal layering during the ‘It’s not my fault’ part.

Next up is ‘Strange’ which is absolutely fantastic. It’s an “experimental punk rock” track and it absolutely nailed it for me. I loved his vocals here and the full progression was dope.

‘Want Another’ brings us a dance pop combo. “The lyrics contain provocative characters that awaken the other person’s hidden desires and instincts.” We’re getting more of rapper KEY in this one.

After that comes ‘No Way’. We’re going for a more sensual sound with ‘No Way’ and its blend of R&B and house. I really enjoyed the melody here with the punchy drums.

‘Infatuation’ has the first feature of the album; Eunho of PLAVE. We’re going for a 90s swing jack moment with a lot of bright energy and a great bass guitar. I really enjoyed the synergy between Key and Eunho. This is a lot of fun!

‘GLAM’ delivers with a dance pop momentum and this is an absolute anthem. Literally play this at the club and this will go bonkers. Key is definitely an icon.

We’re falling through the ‘Picture Frame’ into a dreamy synthy moment. I love his vocals here and the way the vocal chops are added. This is honestly a really cool track.

Red Velvet’s Seulgi is our second feature on the album. ‘Perfect Error’ is a warm track with the lovely message that you have to believe in yourself, even if you make a mistake. I love the energy and warmth in this track.

We’re closing the album with ‘Lavender Love’. This is a dreamy pop synth single with warm lyrics and a fun progression. I really enjoyed the layering in the chorus. This is great!

Go ahead and listen to ‘HUNTER’ by KEY here.
