NCT’s HAECHAN is back with his first full-length album ‘TASTE’. Let’s dive right in!
TASTE
We start off with ‘Camera Lights’ and what a way to open an album! We’re going for a neo soul moment and Haechan has the vocal strength and warmth to pull that off easily.
‘CRZY’ is the title track of this release. We’re going for a funky R&B pop single. I absolutely loved the guitars here.
Next up is ‘ADRENALINE’. This track “reinterprets 2000s club tune hip-hop R&B in a modern way.” It’s a really fun listen! I can totally imagine going clubbing to this.
‘Love Beyond’ is so much fun! It’s a funky R&B track and has some fantastic instrumentals going on. I love the vocal layering and some of the dissonant harmonies.
‘Roll with me’ brings back the soul with warm vocals, trumpet and a sweet piano line. This feels so gentle!
Next up is ‘Intermission’ which is an interlude with Haechan’s narration and sick instrumentals.
‘Talented’ introduces electro funk and this is so cool! Honestly this progression is sick and the guitars are everything. I’m going to be obsessed with this for a while.
‘WYN?’ comes up after that with a feature by none other than HAON. This is a hip hop R&B blend where they “express a burning heart toward an attractive person.” It’s a vibe!
‘Should be’ brings us a 90s slow jam. I’m loving the full mixing here. Everything works so perfectly all together. This is ear candy.
Next up is ‘Grey Rain’. This one is an R&B ballad where he comforts himself through his own loneliness. It’s a beautiful track accompanied by some simple guitars.
The closing track is ‘Outro (Back in the studio)’. I’m such a sucker for a rain sound with a big sigh before starting. This outro is kinda cute. It shows Haechan stepping back into the studio, recording his next album. I kind of hope the next album starts with a rain sound or something, to tie the two together.
