In this edition of our review, we’re diving into a movie that completely shattered our hearts, in the best way possible. Get your tissues ready, because we’re talking about the 2025 romantic drama ‘Even If This Love Disappears From the World Tonight’.
Based on the novel by Misaki Ichijo, this adaptation is written by Lee Yoo-jin and Joe Barton, and directed by Kim Hye-young. The film tells a deeply emotional story about memory, young love, and the painful beauty of fleeting moments.
At the center of the story is Han Seo-yoon (Shin Si-ah), a high school student living with anterograde amnesia caused by a past accident. Every morning when she wakes up, her memory resets to the day of the accident. To cope, she fills her bedroom with notes reminding her of who she is, what condition she has, and which people know the truth. With this carefully constructed system, Seo-yoon tries her best to navigate her teenage years and hold on to some sense of normalcy.
Enter Kim Jae-won (Cho Young-woo), whose first connection with Seo-yoon begins when he saves her during a sudden bus incident on the way to school. That small moment sparks something unexpected.
In an effort to stop his classmate from being bullied, Jae-won accepts a challenge from the bullies to confess his feelings to Seo-yoon. What starts as a forced confession quickly evolves into something genuine when Seo-yoon accepts, and the two begin dating. Between school hallways, quiet walks, and tender conversations, their bond grows in the softest and most innocent way.
Creating Memories
Every single day, Seo-yoon falls for Jae-won all over again. Knowing she will forget him the next morning, she carefully documents every interaction, every message, every memory they create together. Watching her re-experience love daily is both beautiful and heartbreaking.
Jae-won eventually discovers the full truth about her condition after she accidentally falls asleep on his shoulder during a date. Instead of pulling away, he makes a decision: if she has to relive each day without remembering, then he will make every single day unforgettable.
As their relationship deepens, Seo-yoon begins wishing she didn’t have her condition. Falling asleep each night becomes more painful, knowing she’ll lose the memories she’s just created.
But Jae-won is carrying a secret of his own. He suffers from a deteriorating heart condition, one that worsens as time passes. Even at such a young age, he is living with the weight of uncertainty.
As his health declines, he makes a heartbreaking request to Seo-yoon’s friend: if he dies, erase every memory of their relationship. And yet, even with her condition, something about Jae-won lingers in Seo-yoon’s heart, proving that some emotions run deeper than memory itself.
The Heart Does Not Forget
‘Even If This Love Disappears From the World Tonight’ is an incredibly moving coming-of-age story that blends first love with illness, memory loss, and the fragility of youth. The characters are tenderly written, and the emotional pacing allows viewers to fully immerse themselves in the heartbreak and beauty of their journey.
Shin Si-ah and Cho Young-woo deliver soft, genuine, and emotionally raw performances. Their chemistry captures the innocence of teenage love while balancing the heavy realities their characters face. The vulnerability they bring to the screen is what makes this story linger long after the credits roll.
