EPEX is back with their third EP and a brand new era. They started off strong last year with their debut, and since then have had two fantastic comeback. They have been working hard for the fans.
‘Prelude of Anxiety Chapter 1. ’21st Century Boys’ is the start of a new concept that will touch on “complex emotions of children who are controlled by a standardised private education system” (source: Melon). EPEX is really going in with interesting topics and we are rather curious about how they will express this theme through their music.
Let’s dive in.
Prelude of Anxiety Chapter 1. ’21st Century Boys‘
‘Lone Wolf‘ starts this EP with trap beats and a very interesting arrangement. The structure of this song was rather unexpected but super cool, each section is unique and every single members gets to stand out. I really like what they went for. It’s definitely surprising and a dope way to start this EP.
Next up is the title track ‘Anthem of Teen Spirit‘, taking over with a rebellious style and a hip-hop beats. The rap-line killed it in this song, their delivery was super cool and the chanting in the song was fantastic. The ending of the song is really surprising and I just did not expect the sudden end.
As expected with their concept, the music video of this song is a mix of teen angst defying society and its expectations, with some awesome CG, visuals, and powerful choreo. Check it below.
‘Burnout‘ comes up next with a fantastic composition. The mix of genres and beats in this single are awesome. I really liked the concept they went for with this single, and the vocals are super good. A very impressive b-side.
Synth comes along with ‘Strike‘ and for this single we get a hype song with an interesting and killer vocal progression and audio effects. Last on the EP is ‘I’ll go first‘ ending this release on emotional note with its vocals and rather dark vibe. Definitely in line with the concept, and an excellent way to end the first part of this era.
