Our girl CHUU is back with her first full-length album ‘XO, My Cyberlove’. We’re super stoked, so let’s take a closer look!
XO, My Cyberlove
We start off with the title track ‘XO, My Cyberlove’ which is a lovely synthy pop number. I really enjoyed the layering of the instrumentals and the storytelling.
As the album description writes: “it metaphorically depicts the emotional waves that occur between humans and AI through the relationship that continues in a virtual chat window, and captures the ‘new form of modern love’ created by the digital world.”
We’re getting a sweeping, emotional pop ballad with ‘Canary’. It’s a beautiful track with intense layering and a powerful momentum.
‘Cocktail Dress’ is a super cool track. It’s a blend of indie pop with some alternative and emo elements. I really enjoyed the bass and the beat. The melody in the chorus is a total earworm. You’ll be singing along to ‘cocktail dress’ in no time.
We’re getting ‘Limoncello’ next. It’s a very cheerful, playful track. It’s giving summer during this winter blizzard we’re having. The album description writes “The thrill of a moment when an inexplicable attraction suddenly comes is expressed like the acidity of lemon, and the process of unexpected emotions quickly spreading, as if bewitched by a single passing scent”.
‘Teeny Tiny Heart’ is witty and fun. It’s an electronic pop track with cute bytes in the instrumental layering. I really enjoyed the brass that was hidden in there.
We’re going for Afrobeats with ‘Love Potion’. “The lyrics talk about momentum, the strength to keep moving forward without losing your flow and maintaining your rhythm even when life tries to slow you down, and the magical moment when you dance through everyday life at your own pace without stopping.” It’s a cool track and a smooth listen. Chin up, darling!
‘Heart Tea Bag’ delivers with alternative R&B. The beats are cool and laid back. The synths create a very cool ambience that leaves you wanting more. The vocals here are lovely and I enjoyed the little adlibs.
‘Hide & Seek’ is a pop track with an insane bass line. It’s light, bouncy and playful and feels like a perfect CHUU track.
The closing track is ‘Loving You!’ Honestly this was a super interesting listen. It’s a blend of hyper-rock and hyper-pop which creates this delightful wild listen without it being overbearing. The instrumental during the bridge was crazy. This was great!
