In this week’s drama review we are talking about a movie about growing up, friends, love and life. Let’s dive into the 2022 production ‘20th Century Girl’.
Written and directed by Bang Woo-ri, ‘20th Century Girl’ tells the story of Na Bo-ra (Kim Yoo-jung), a high school student with a charming and straightforward personality.
This story starts when Bo-ra’s best friend Kim Yeon-Doo (Roh Yoon-Seo) needs to leave to get heart surgery in the United States. Before leaving, she meets Baek Hyun-Ji (Park Jung-Woo). From the first moment she sees him, she develops a crush on him, and asks her best friend to gather all his details.
Bo-ra being the loyal friend she is, decides to do her best to gather all the details about this mysterious guy, and even decides to join the broadcasting club at her school to learn more about him. There he meets Poong Woon-Ho (Byeon Woo-Seok) who is Hyun-Jin’s best friend.
Loyalty vs. Love
While gathering all the details Yeon-Doo asked for, she grows closer to Woon-Ho, who has had a crush on her for a while. When her best friend returns, Bo-ra finds out that her research wasn’t really accurate, as she was researching the wrong guy.
Bo-ra finds herself in between protecting her best friend’s heart, or going for what her heart tells her to do, but these two sides are in conflict. Her friendship and first love are at loss, and she doesn’t know how to move forward in this situation, until the truth comes out.
Learning about life
‘20th Century Girl’ is a drama that talks about friendship, love, and life. This movie navigates the fear of losing someone you love and trying to do the right thing even if it hinders one’s happiness.
With amazing acting and a lot of aspects that will make many millennials melancholic, this movie is a lovely watch that will have viewers in tears and giggles.
