In this week’s Rapper In The Spotlight we want to share the career of the one and only Nucksal. He was a rather late bloomer in comparison to other rappers but his flow and vibe is incredible. Let’s dive into his career.
Lee Jun-yeong (aka. Nucksal) debuted in 2009 as part of the Hip-Hop duo ‘Future Heaven’, while part of this group he became popular in the underground scene. It wasn’t until 2013 when he decided to begin his solo career.
His first solo single ‘Demon Dance Hall’ featuring Samuel Seo, was released at the beginning of 2014, and later on this year he joined the now defunct label Vismajor Company.
After joining this company he dropped the single ‘Black Ink’ featuring Jayho and CREAM of Laybacksound.
In 2015, he came back with the single ‘Skill Skill Skill’ featuring DJ Wegun.
First Album
His first album was released in 2016, ‘The God of Small Things’ included features by DEEPFLOW, Don Mills, Paloalto and many others. This release earned him the 2017 “Album of the Year” at the Korea Hip Hop Awards.
In 2017, he released the single ‘Nuckle Flow’, and followed this up with the special single ‘We Go Higher’ featuring ODEE.
Towards the second half of 2017, he participated in the sixth season of the survival show ‘Show Me The Money‘. For this season he became the runner-up, and left many incredible stages, check them below.
Mainstream Success
After a very successful participation in the survival show, Nucksal’s popularity rose even more, he went from participant to judge in 2018 for the survivals ‘High School Rapper 2‘, ‘Show Me The Money 777′.
In 2018, he also released the single ‘Idea’, and also started to participate in many variety shows.
The following year, Nucksal was fairly inactive in music, however, he became a full entertainer participating in many variety shows and even becoming a judge for the shows ‘Sign Here‘ and ‘High School Rapper 3′.
His 2020 started with the release of the single ‘AM I A SLAVE’, this one was followed by his second album ‘1Q87’, which includes collabs by Woo, Gaeko, DeVita and many more.
In 2021, he released the single ‘FEEL THE WAVE’, and followed up this release in 2022 with the collaborative single and EP, ‘Leave Me Alone’ and ‘Sincerely Yours’, respectively, with CADEJO.
In 2022, he dropped a live album of his EP with Cadejo, and followed this up with the single ‘To The Better Side’.
