Rapper in the Spotlight: Giant Pink

We are back with a new ‘Rapper in the Spotlight’, and this week we are featuring female power. Park Yoon-ha also known as Giant Pink is a South Korean rapper under the hip-hop label AIKM, a sub label of  SM Entertainment.

She first came into the spotlight after winning ‘Unpretty Rapstar 3’. Before that she participated in Show Me the Money 5. Here is a highlight of her performances from SMTM.

Unpretty Rapstar 3

SMTM5 was Giant Pink’s debut stage, but her performances in Unpretty Rapstar took her to the next level. In season 3 of the competition the experienced rappers such as Nadia from Wa$$up and Brown Eyed Girl‘s Legendary Miryo were part of the line-up as well as Jeon Soyeon now part of the Kpop idol group (G)-Idle. Take a look at the Cyphers intro for that season. The competition was tough.

Giant Pink’s first release was a feature in Miryo’s EP ‘Rock-Scissors-Paper’. She took part in the writing of the song, take a look at the music video here:

She also covered Red Velvet’s song ‘Dumb Dumb’ along with Jane Jang and PERC%NT, and this version has a complete different vibe from the original one.

Solo Activities

‘I Don’t Think I Love You’ was Giant Pink’s first solo release, featuring Kassy (former competitor in Unpretty Rapstar). It was released in March 2018 and it is such a soothing and chill song. It suits Giant Pink’s husky voice perfectly. Take a look at the live performance:

‘Mirror Mirror’ was released in February 2019. This song is basically Giant Pink dissing everyone. ‘Mirror Mirror’ is fully hip-hop driven and this song is probably one of my favourite releases from her. It’s powerful and shows how strong she is as a rapper. Part of the lyrics go like this:

“(…) I got the money I got the fame
Tighten up, I got a belt
Trendsetter, I’ve been through a lot but
I’m coming back, I’ll be back
If you put my name on it,
nothing else will be a brand
If my voice is on it,
nothing else will be a trend (…)”

Her latest release is ‘Forever Young’ featuring Leellamarz. It has an incredibly cool vibe to it and the music video has and old school look that I absolutely loved.

Here at M.E.A.L. we hope to see more from this talented rapper, in the meanwhile check out all her releases:
