We’re back with our favorite Korean Indie releases of the month of January. Time is moving really quickly and we’ve discovered some interesting new artists and we were absolutely blessed with some new music. Let’s take a closer look!
Week 1
PADO is a new vocalist duo consisting of SOL2 and GaMiii. Their debut release ‘Breakfree’ is lovely and I am obsessed with their vocal tones. The violin in this single is wonderful and brings so much drama to the track.
Gogang blessed us with the new album ‘oh!honeybee’. It’s a great listening experience and we’ll be listening to this for a long while.
Elevator Pitch is a new discovery for me. ‘Resting Place’ is a lovely track that is very soothing and even a bit jazzy. His vocals are soft and create a wonderful soundscape.
Week 2
Playbook released the EP ‘Spirit#2’. Playbook is also the vocalist and guitarist of indie band Silica Gel. It’s interesting to see the difference in styles between the band and his solo work.
Rsh came out with his first EP ‘I am here today’. It’s a great EP, but I especially love the track ‘Down is being puzzled’ because of the use of the flute. It’s awesome and well layered.
The trio Irda came out with their second single ‘Burn out’. I like their sound a lot and their overall vibe.
Week 3
Gwiulim dropped their new single ‘Hopeful’. The duo is hopeful for the new year. This is a soft ballad that just feels wonderful.
The band ALBAS released the single ‘Blackbird’. This is only their third release, but it’s so cool.
Hae In Cho is a jazz vocalist who released her first EP ‘Compromise’. I’ve been really obsessed because this type of music is so calming and creates such a unique ambience.
Week 4
Kwon So Jeong’s new EP ‘Recklessly but beautifully’ explores a reckless love story. It’s really well done and I really enjoyed her vocal tone.
Jihwan came out with the EP ‘I’m no stranger to you’. I enjoyed the storytelling and the rawness of feelings delivered. ‘JFK’ is touching, but ‘Dear.Yoonhee’ might just be my favorite.
The group NuMori released the very experimental ‘Katuri’. It’s a combination of traditional Korean folk music with EDM, dubstep and even reggaeton. I had no idea what I was listening to the first time I heard it, but the second time I was all aboard this wonderful experimental track.
That’s it for this January Korean Indie DisKovery. I hope you discovered some new artists, just like me. It was a great month filled with cool releases.
