[Review] ILLIT – MAMIHLAPINATAPAI

The girlies from ILLIT are back with their latest mini-album ‘MAMIHLAPINATAPAI’. The title stands for “a game of wits where both desire each other but no one takes the first step.” We’re super curious, so let’s dive’ right in!

MAMIHLAPINATAPAI

We start off with ‘GRWM (Get Ready With Me)’. This is a Drum and Bass track that talks about sharing one’s inner most thoughts through an almost make-up tutorial style chat. It’s adorable and has an incredibly catchy chorus.

‘It’s Me’ is their title track and is a techno track with a hype beat and a killer flow. I’m a bit sad as it’s quite short, but I think they blended the melodical parts well with the techno heavy post-chorus.

Next up is ‘paw, paw!’ We’re going for an electro pop track with a cool hook and a nice melodic line. This was a very nice listen.

After that comes the pop rock ‘MAMIHLAPINATAPAI’. “The song cleverly captures the language of their generation, likening this to the “guessing game” played during group projects. To contemporary youth who have become “lazy perfectionists” in the face of countless choices and responsibilities, ILLIT presents their own method of winning with composure.”

The closing track is ‘Love, older you’ where they’re writing a letter to their younger selves to help them through the hardships. It’s comforting, sweet and the harmonies are lovely.
