[Review] Hi-5

‘Hi-5’ is pure chaotic fun. Directed and written by Kang Hyung-Chul, this 2025 release brings together an unlikely group of strangers who suddenly find themselves connected—literally—through organ transplants. But here’s the twist: along with their new organs, they’ve also inherited supernatural powers.

Wan-Seo (Lee Jae-In), Ji-Seong (Ahn Jae-Hong), Sun-Nyeo (Ra Mi-Ran), Yak-Sun (Kim Hee-Won), and Ki-Dong (Yoo Ah-In) couldn’t be more different, and watching them stumble into each other’s lives is half the fun. Their mismatched personalities lead to constant bickering, hilarious accidents, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. Of course, things get complicated when Young-Chun (Jin Young), a shady cult leader who also gained powers from a transplant, sets his sights on them while chasing his dream of becoming an “absolute being.”

The movie doesn’t hold back on the humor. The action scenes are ridiculous in the best way—messy, over-the-top, and just plain fun. The cast’s chemistry makes the whole ragtag team dynamic work, even if at times it feels like they could have pushed the group banter and relationships a little further. Still, it’s hard not to get swept up in their chaotic energy.

At just under two hours, ‘Hi-5’ never takes itself too seriously, and that’s exactly what makes it so entertaining. It’s a lighthearted ride full of laughs, quirky powers, and a team you can’t help but root for—even as they argue their way through saving the day.
