YUJU is back with her mini-album ‘In Bloom’. This former GFRIEND member has been releasing incredible music so we’re happy to see her back!
In Bloom
We start off with ‘Orion’ which is a soft pop moment with great instrumentals. Yuju wrote the lyrics and co-composed the track.
After that comes the title track ‘REPLY’ which is a pop rock track with a fantastic build-up towards the chorus and some killer guitars. The vocals are stunning. The lyrics, which Yuju wrote herself, started with the concept of ‘what if I could write a letter to a loved one, what would it say’.
‘Sequence’ comes up next and has a feature by Jeong Sewoon who’s an incredible vocalist. They wrote the lyrics together and I absolutely adore this indie pop vibe. The instrumentals are great and I love their synergy.
‘Moonstruck Love’ is all about a perfect love in a dream which sadly ends when waking up. It’s a beautiful track that has a lovely progression and I would love to see this with a live band.
Gemini is the feature on the track ‘No Matter’. “This song starts from the question of how much I want to know about the person I love, whether I can handle it when I find out, or whether I will regret not knowing, and whether I can pretend not to know even if I know some of that person’s secrets.” I enjoyed their synergy and Gemini’s verse felt very natural to the track. The autotune was great.
The EP closes off with ‘Sunset’ which feels appropriate. This is a killer rock ballad and feels a bit bittersweet.
