[Review] TZUYU – AbouTZU

TZUYU from TWICE oficially debuted with her solo mini-album ‘AbouTZU’. We’re super curious which music direction she’s going in, so let’s dive right in!

AbouTZU

We start off with the title track ‘Run Away‘. This disco pop track has some killer vocals and a nice progression. I really enjoyed the vocal parts in the chorus with the retro synths in the back.

Next up is ‘Heartbreak in Heaven’ featuring Peniel of BTOB. This is an English track with a great pop vibe. Peniel’s verse was fun and a great addition.

After that we get ‘Lazy Baby’ featuring pH-1. We’re going funky with this one. I love the brass sections in the instrumentals. American duo Flyana Boss participated in the composing which I love! “Watchu gonna do? – Nothing” is so funny to me, I’m obsessed! Really enjoyed the interaction between pH-1 and Tzuyu.

‘Losing Sleep’ brings us to hot summer nights with tropical house. It’s a catchy track with a bouncy rhythm.

‘One Love’ brings us the pop rock Tzuyu we deserve. I loved the little tempo play with the vocal parts and the wacky drum sample. The chorus gets a bit more layered as we go along which makes for a nice progression.

The closing track is ‘Fly’. Tzuyu is credited as the lyricist for this one. This mid-tempo pop ballad has some really cool piano going on in the backing track. I love the warm and fairylike note this closes the album with.
