Our pop queens from TWICE are back with their 14th mini-album ‘STRATEGY’. We are beyond stoked that they are back as it’s been a whopping 10 months since their previous comeback. Let’s take a closer look!
STRATEGY
We start off with the title track ‘STRATEGY’ with the incredible miss Megan Thee Stallion. First of all what an incredible feature! From the opening line, we’re getting pop class. We’re getting an 8-beat Hip-Hop rhythm with a heavy bass and according to the album description “stylish synth chords that exude sophistication.”
It’s a bop – no more notes.
‘Kiss My Troubles Away’ comes up next. This is a high-energy pop track with fun synths and a lovely message. “The song sings of a love that makes even a dark, cold day warm and bright.” It’s a very cute listen that makes you feel lighter and happier.
After that we get ‘Like it Like it’. We’re going for synth pop with some drum and bass elements. Lee Hyung-seok who worked on Le Sserafim’s album ‘Eve, Psyche and Bluebeard’s Wife’ and ‘Starry Night’ by FIFTY FIFTY is listed as one of the lyricists.
‘Sweetest Obsession’ is a dreamy futuristic pop track with calm trap beats and honestly a really fun vibe. The chorus is catchy as hell and the overall flow is just lovely. The build-up is sweet. This track is total earcandy.
Next up is ‘Keeper’. The lyrics were written by Dahyun. I really enjoyed the rhythm of this one and the various vocal layers and harmonies. Ji-Hyo is kind of popping off in the ad-libs. It’s one catchy track and simply begs to sing along to.
‘Magical’ gives us some nostalgia with 80s pop. I’m calling this a Christmas track with some bounce to it. The jingles give it away, so you’re totally justified to add this to your family’s Christmas playlist.
The album closes off with the solo version of ‘Strategy’ without Megan Thee Stallion.
Overall ‘STRAGEY’ by TWICE is a lot of fun, has a lot of diversity but really solid tracks. This was a great listen. Check it out here on Spotify here.
