[Review] Tarot

This week we’re back with a new Korean film review and this time we watched the 2024 ‘Tarot’. Let’s dive in!

Tarot

This film tells three stories of people who find a tarot card and then suddenly strange things start to happen in their lives. ‘Tarot’ was directed by Ashburn and written by Kyung Min Sun. There’s one film and then there is also a mini-series of four episodes.

In the first story we follow single mom Ji-woo (Cho Yeo Jeong) who starts a new job in a convenience store and has to work during Christmas. She found the wheel of fortune card. Her daughter stays home alone since no one is around to babysit. She gets disturbing text messages and feels as if her daughter is no longer alone.

In the second story we follow idol manager and cheating husband Kyung-rae (Ko Kyu Phil). He finds the Fool tarot card and during his taxi ride home he kills the chauffeur after thinking he’s a serial killer. Things only go downhill from there.

In the last, and in my opinion most gruesome story, we follow delivery driver Dong-In (Kim Jin-Young). He found the High Priestess card during a joke delivery. He’s young and cocky and plans to do grand things in his life. One of his clients takes a liking to him, but that takes a dark turn fast.

Overall

This was a fun watch, though the last chapter with the delivery driver was a bit too gruesome (even for me). It’s not the best film, I think maybe a better transition between stories as a framework would have been better.
