MAMAMOO member Solar is back with her first solo mini-album ‘容 : FACE’. I was absolutely shook by the teasers. She looked super good!
容 : FACE
We start off with the intro ‘Raw’. This is a really cool start and uses super dope instrumentals. Her vocal fry is everything and the amount of power this track has is insane.
After that comes the title track ‘Honey’. Solar is rapping?! Unexpected but I’m here for it. In the album description she wrote that she based her rap off of Winnie The Pooh. The brass is SO cool and this House meets funky brass and the quirky instrumentals combo is so much fun.
Solar is serving major visuals in the music video.
‘chap chap’ is a cute pop R&B track. The instrumentals are quirky and all over the place while still forming a cohesive track. It’s a super fun listen and plays with pauses well.
The big band opening to ‘Big Booty‘ was not what I was expecting but I am SO here for it. She fully composed the track. The lyrics are hilarious. This reminds me so much of early MAMAMOO because of the jazzy vibes and the amount of humour. It makes me nostalgic. I love it. The bridge feels very dramatic, I’m obsessed.
The closing track is ‘zinggle zinggle’. This is an R&B track that very much follows the line of ‘chap chap’. It’s a lovely listen, feels very playful and is a lovely way to close off the mini.
‘容 : FACE’ by Solar is a wonderful mini-album. I enjoyed the variety of genres and Solar’s wonderful vocals.
