Mokyo has finally released his first full album ‘Accent Fried’. We’ve been following him for a while because his music is creative, out of the box and raw. It’s honestly amazing.
Accent Fried
‘Edwin’ is the opening track on the album and is the first of three title tracks.. In the album description he dedicated this album to his friend Edwin Choi so that title makes sense. The track features YEIN and I’m kind of in love with her vocals. I’m digging the instrumentals, especially the string sample in the back.
Next up we get ‘Four’. This is the shortest track on the album and has a totally lovely guitar in the instrumentation. It’s an interesting layering with Mokyo’s vocals. There’s multiple layers, almost like he’s harmonizing with himself. The acoustic feel with the Mokyo’s vocals makes it feel very intimate.
After that we get ‘paranoid’ featuring the one and only DEAN. It is the second title track. This is such a God-tier combo. I’m still listening to ‘Breath’ quite often, so I’m very happy to add this song to the collection. I feel like this song travels through quite a bit instrumentation wise. It doesn’t give you a chance to breathe. The guitar again is absolutely brilliant, played by Kwak Seungeon.
Even though it isn’t one of the title tracks, ‘MAD’ got a new music video. This one feels rather haunting. Something that corresponds with the vibe of the music video. After listening to it a couple of times, all I can think of is the word ‘adrift’.
Track number five is ‘testing’. I was quite shook with the lyric ‘I’ll be pissing on your life’ I do have to say. There seems to be quite some resentment in the lyrics, but still a total vibe.
After that we get ‘melon’ featuring Woo. Mokyo’s diction and pacing is so interesting. He likes to play with pauses and the way words are pronounced. It’s so dope to listen to. This track has kind of a groovy instrumentation. I enjoyed Woo’s verse, I think their vibes go well together.
‘dumb’ follows that and it’s the first time in the album that we hear Mokyo speak Korean. The rest was in English. I like the fact that they played with the left and right headphones, so use yours for the full experience. Honestly, if you need a ‘hate everything’ song, listen to this and just sing along.
The third and last title track is ‘Kontrol’. I have to say I’m quite intrigued by this song and the title, I don’t exactly see the correlation. I am kind of obsessed with the instrumentation of this track. It’s so smooth and has these little ‘twinkles’ for a lack of a better word that make it a bit lighter.
Track number nine is ‘tuck in my’ and I suggest reading the lyrics for this one. It sounds like quite a lot. The instrumentation feels quite hectic, but I’m guessing that was the point.
The last track is ‘snipper’ featuring pH-1. Their friendship is well known in the industry and I find it hella adorable. pH-1’s verse sounds like he’s almost out of breath, I don’t think I’ve ever heard him this way. I have a feeling ‘snipper’ is going to haunt me a little if I think about it too much.
Overall
I’m super happy with this album. Mokyo had his hands all over the lyrics, arrangement and composition. It feels like the kind of album that you can listen to for a long time without getting sick of it, so that’s exactly what I’ll be doing.
