[Review] Knight Flower

‘Knight Flower’ is a 2024 South Korean television series that blends romance, intrigue, and historical drama. Based on a popular webtoon, it stars Lee Hanee, Lee Jong-won, Kim Sang-joong, and Lee Ki-woo. Set in a royal court, the show explores themes of duty, betrayal, and love, all while bringing history to life.

Plot

The story revolves around Jo Yeo-hwa, a widow leading a double life. By day, she appears as a mourning widow, but by night, she becomes a masked protector of the common people, using her martial arts skills to fight for justice. Lee Hanee brings Yeo-hwa to life in a standout performance. She captures the character’s inner conflict with emotional depth, making Yeo-hwa’s journey both fascinating and relatable. Hanee’s portrayal makes it easy to connect with Yeo-hwa as she balances her secret life and the political chaos surrounding her.

Lee Jong-won plays Park Soo-ho, a skilled military officer with intelligence and impressive martial arts abilities. His character forms a strong bond with Yeo-hwa. The chemistry between Lee Hanee and Lee Jong-won is one of the series’ highlights. Their interactions are natural, with a mix of tenderness and tension. As their relationship deepens, it adds an emotional layer to the plot.

Kim Sang-joong plays Seok Ji-sung, Yeo-hwa’s father-in-law and a powerful political figure. His role as the left state councillor places him at the center of the political drama. Kim adds depth to the show with his strong performance. Meanwhile, Lee Ki-woo portrays Park Yoon-hak, Soo-ho’s older brother.

The historical setting of ‘Knight Flower’ is another strong point. The series gives viewers a glimpse into the struggles of women during that time, showing their limited choices and challenges. It also introduces cultural terms and customs, enriching the story and making it more immersive.

Filming took place at the Songso Historic House, a national cultural heritage site. The beautiful location adds authenticity to the historical setting.
